Born in Düsseldorf to an American father and a Swedish mother, Tony Warren was raised in Gästrikland, Sweden. He completed four years of formal training at the School of Representational Art in Chicago, founded by Bruno Surdo, where he studied the techniques of the Old Masters.
In 2010, Tillgivenhet (Devotion) was personally presented at the Royal Palace as a wedding gift to Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel. The original is held by the Crown Princess Couple. Related works and original materials are preserved in the collections of Nordiska museet; a graphic work from the series is catalogued in Europeana.
Warren undertakes a limited number of portrait commissions for private collectors, families, and institutions. Every commission is conducted with complete discretion.
Artistic principles
No black pigment is used. Shadow is achieved through complementary colour relationships, a Flemish discipline maintained without exception.
